The Private Lesson Fund
About the Private Lesson Fund
The Private Lesson Fund was created to bridge the gap for those wanting to further their dance education but can't quite swing the cost of a private lesson.
Kate Garboden saw the impact even one private lesson had on improving her own dancing and decided that if she could give one private lesson to a few other dancers, she could not only make an impact on those dancer's development, but also improve the community as well.
The Private Lesson Fund is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit.

Kate Garboden (She/Her)
Executive Director, Founder, and Judge
Kate has been dancing since 2008 in various forms of partner dancing and has been dancing West Coast Swing since 2013. Her love for WCS and it's members pushed her to build her local Seattle community through monthly Practicas. The Covid-19 pandemic put a pause on the Practicas so she looked for other ways she could help.
She realized if she could give money to even 10 dancers per year to take a private lesson, she could help build a stronger community so she founded the Private Lesson Fund.

Tim Kenny (they/them)
Judge
Born and raised in Michigan, Tim first got a taste of ballroom dancing in college. After moving out to California, they were corralled into attending Swingtacular in 2017 and got hooked on West Coast Swing.
In 2019, they went full-time teaching WCS, competing as a leader and follower in the All-star division, and putting a Showcase routine out on The Open floor placing 6th. You can find them teaching in the Bay Area, shooting professional video, and pondering the complex systems of dance.
